WHY IS PRESCHOOL IMPORTANT?

Preschool benefits children in many ways, including:

Language & Literacy: Daily activities develop reading and writing skills and introduce important literacy concepts.

Math & Science: Preschoolers are introduced to cognitive skills such as patterning, number recognition, counting and graphing.

Creativity & Imagination: Students showcase their abundant creativity through dramatic play, music and art.

Physical Development: Daily activities develop large motor skills such as running, jumping, skipping, throwing and kicking.

Preschoolers have opportunities to work in large groups, small groups, pairs, and individually. Group activities help students develop social schools and provide opportunities to practice listening, sharing, taking turns, negotiating skills, and cooperating skills. All these skills help prepare preschoolers for continued success as they begin kindergarten.

Our Programs

Buckeye Elementary School District Preschool offers two preschool programs: a developmental program and a community program.

Students are screened and evaluated to determine eligibility and placement into the developmental program. Eligibility requirements for the developmental preschool program are in accordance with the Arizona State Department of Education and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.

The community preschool program is open to all children in the district ages 3-5 and is a tuition based program. Both full day and half day openings are available.

Only students in the developmental program may be eligible for transportation.

Student-Teacher Ratio

Our preschool program is licensed by the Arizona Department of Health Services and meets and exceeds all recommended standards. The majority of our teachers and assistants are certified in First Aid and CPR. Our teachers and assistants are all highly qualified to work with preschool age children.

Average class size is 20 students. Our classrooms all have a highly qualified teacher and at least one assistant, with most having two assistants, which exceeds the required student teacher ratio of 1:13.
